What is UPF?

Ultraviolet Protection Factor: ultraviolet protection factor.

It is the measure of how much a fabric blocks UV rays before they reach your skin: it measures the protection offered by fabrics.

An UPF50+ fabric blocks at least 98% of UV rays: only 1 in 50 rays can pass through the fabric to your skin.

A UPF50+ garment offers the highest certifiable protection: it does not require reapplication, leaves no residue, and is suitable for any occasion.

SPF vs. UPF: They're Not the Same Thing

SPF CREAM

2-3h

Average duration of protection before sweating, contact with water, or simple UV degradation reduces its effectiveness. Reapplication required every 2 hours.

UPF FABRIC

The protection lasts as long as the garment is worn. It doesn't degrade with sweat, wash off, or rub away. It's constant from dawn to dusk.

won't it be hot?

The answer is NO.

Skin directly exposed to the sun absorbs radiant heat. Nule UPF fabric, with its high breathability, creates a shield on the skin, allows air to circulate, and reflects UV rays, also reflecting some of the heat. The result is a lower perceived skin temperature compared to direct exposure.

The fabric is breathable and dries quickly. Lightweight like a second skin, you forget you're wearing it.

covering yourself with the right fabric can be cooler than being in the sun uncovered

frequently asked questions

Do I also need to use sunscreen?

For areas covered by the nude fabric, no. UPF protection is more than sufficient. For exposed areas (face, hands, décolletage...), we always recommend a good SPF50+ sunscreen.

Does the protection wear off after washing?

UPF protection is inherent in the fabric's fiber structure, it is not a surface treatment. It does not deteriorate with normal washing. Follow the washing instructions to maintain both the protection and the aesthetic of the garment.

Can I wear Nulu clothing in water?

Yes. Unlike sunscreen, UPF protection remains effective in water. In water, technical fibers resist immersion without losing their protective properties.

Is it different from technical sportswear?

Yes. Technical sportswear is designed for athletic performance and not necessarily for UV protection. For Nule, protection is the union of function and aesthetics.
